Islam in RE: Religious Literacy & Controversy

This full day course is presented to all educators interested in teaching Islam and in the future role of Religious Education in relation to SMSC (Social, Moral, Spiritual and Cultural Education).
This tailored course facilitates the best practice outlined in Ofsted’s RE report Realising the Potential and gives each teacher the confidence to teach the Islamic component of the curicullum.
In addition, attendees will be provided with materials which will enable them to utilise the Cooperative Learning techniques demonstrated during the course in conjunction with existing lesson plans and materials throughout the curriculum.
The course is taught through two modules:
Primary objectives of Module A:
Primary objectives of Module B:
Secondary objectives include collaborative reflections on method and content; on the role and impact of RE and SMSC in schools and society at large; the role of religion in contemporary society; and the role of the teacher in enquiry-based learning.
Basic course total time: 6 hours, lunch and breaks included.
Delivery: 6 hour inset or 2 x 3 hour twilights at a venue of your choice.
Key stage: Year 5-11
